Apartment Collection Service Guidelines

Mill Valley Refuse Service provides apartment garbage, recycling, and compost service in Almonte, Alto, Belvedere, Corte Madera, Homestead, Mill Valley, Strawberry, Tiburon and several unincorporated areas of Marin County.

Apartments are defined as multi-unit residential housing with four or more units all paid for by the property owner.

Service Levels

Only apartment owners or account managers may start, change or stop service. If you are a resident of an apartment and have questions about your complex’s service levels, please refer questions to your apartment owner or manager.

Apartments are charged a minimum of one 32-gallon can per unit.

There are three levels of garbage services available for apartment customers depending on whether carts or containers are brought to the street or if our drivers have to come onto the property to pick up and return them.

Baseline apartment service includes weekly pickup of garbage, recycling and compost carts, but rates ultimately depend on the number of carts or containers used and frequency of pickup. 

When the property owner signs up for our garbage service, a customer support representative will review these options with you and help you determine which one is right for your complex.

Mill Valley Refuse Apartment Curbside Service

Curbside

This is the base rate for garbage service for carts or containers that are one (1) to five (5) feet from the street. We will also pick up trash carts from inside a trash enclosure, provided it is within five (5) feet from the street.

Note: if our service trucks are able to drive up to trash enclosures on a commercial property’s parking lot or service alley, and trash containers are within five (5) feet of where the truck can park, MVRS will charge the same as if the cans or containers were at curbside. 

Mill Valley Refuse Apartment On Premise Service

On-Premise

When your carts or containers are visible from the street, no more than 25 feet from the street, and accessible to a wheeled cart (no steps allowed). The rate is an additional $5 per cart or container, per month. Carts or containers will be left empty at the street unless you request they be returned for an additional $5 per cart or container per month.

On Premise-Plus

On-Premise Plus Service is defined as carts or containers not visible from the street or beyond 25 feet from the street, but accessible to a wheeled cart (no steps allowed). The rate is an additional $15 per cart or container, per month. Carts or containers will be left empty at the street unless you request they be returned for an additional $15 per cart or container per month..

Terms, Conditions and Rates

Apartment rates start with weekly pickup of garbage, recycling and compost carts, but ultimately depend on the number of carts or containers used and frequency of pickup requested.

Billing

Apartment customers are billed monthly. Apartment owners may set up or log in to your account to pay your bill online or set up reoccurring payments.

Carts or Containers for Apartment Customers

Apartments must supply their own Garbage Carts unless it is determined that large-capacity containers are required. We provide Recycle and Compost Carts depending on the apartment’s needs.  A representative will review these options with property owners when they sign up for garbage service.
